About This Book
The GardenBuddy.au Garden Year 2027: Mediterranean is a working garden book for home growers across Australia’s Mediterranean zone, from Perth and Bunbury to Adelaide and Geraldton. The cover sets the tone with a smiling cartoon olive tree and a mascot holding a magnifying glass, on a cream background with green title text. It looks friendly on the kitchen bench, but the inside is built for the dirt under your fingernails. Open it in the new year and you have a plan for the whole season ahead.
Each month starts with climate information and two lists: what to sow and transplant, and what to harvest. Moon phases and traditional moon-planting guidance sit beside sunrise and sunset times, so you can time a job around the light and the moon if that is how you garden. Planting windows in this zone can be short and dry, so having the whole month on one page matters when the weather turns. Weekly garden records let you log what really happened in the patch, and seed tray tracking shows which sowings came up and which did not. The planning is only half the book. The record is the other half.
The second half is a set of growing pages for vegetables, herbs, fruit and other crops suited to the zone. Every crop page covers planting timing, sunlight, spacing, watering, soil requirements, suggested varieties, companion plants, common pests and diseases, and expected yield. Companion and pest notes help you plan bed layout and spot trouble before it spreads through the rows. A blank space on each page lets you write your own results next to the reference notes, so the book gradually becomes a history of what grows well in your garden and what does not.
At the end of the year, compare your rainfall and temperatures with the Mediterranean zone averages and total up your harvests. Then decide which crops earned their place and which ones are out. Keeping those totals in one place means next season starts from your own numbers, not from memory. The final pages help you plan what to grow differently in 2028. It is meant to be used hard: write in it, take it into the shed, leave it on the potting bench and let some soil get on the pages. A year later it is a record of your own patch, not a generic calendar.
