About Garden Buddy
A small Australian operation building the gardening tool we wanted to use ourselves. Run from Dayboro, Queensland.
Why we built this
If you have ever planted lettuce in a Brisbane October because the seed packet said “spring”, you know what is wrong with most gardening advice. The packets are written for the UK. The apps are built for the US. The YouTube tutorials assume frost dates that do not apply to Sydney, let alone Townsville.
We started by tracking supermarket vegetable prices for our own household. Then we noticed that nobody had combined live shop prices with proper Australian climate-zone planting guides. So we built the thing.
What makes us different
Three things, all of which we have, that nobody else has put in one place:
- 107,000 daily supermarket price records across Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, and IGA — refreshed every day
- 104 crops covered across all seven Australian climate zones with real planting calendars, not “spring/summer” generic advice
- Queensland Fruit Fly management as a first-class feature, because no other tool addresses it and it is the most damaging pest for millions of eastern Australian gardeners
If you have ever lost a tomato crop to fruit fly, or pulled out a yellow plant only to find galled roots from nematodes, you know why this matters.
Where we are headed
Right now we serve Australia. The plant database, the climate zones, and the supermarket coverage are all national. We will not chase international expansion until the Australian product is good enough that we are proud of every part of it.
Our roadmap, in honest order:
- Make every page on this site fast and useful (right now, today)
- Get the price tracker indexed by Google so non-members can find us through search
- Wire the Gardener Weekly Digest into a fortnightly Australian vegetable price report
- Build out the QFF management module to a level no other tool offers
- If demand justifies it, build a proper native mobile app (probably late 2026)
Who is behind it
Garden Buddy is operated by HELP4BIS (ABN 86 081 237 087), a small Australian software company based in Dayboro, Queensland. We are GST registered, fully Australian-owned, and we host on Australian infrastructure. The plant data, the price scrapers, the AI models — everything runs on hardware we own and operate.
We are not venture funded. We are not chasing a growth-at-all-costs exit. The subscription pays for hosting, the GPU electricity bill, and the time it takes to keep the data clean.
